Delta Downs: Closing Report comes again to take Azalea

Closing Report won her second consecutive stakes race at Delta Downs on Friday night, when she came back for a 2 1/2-length win over Lady Grantham in the $100,000 Azalea. The score came on the heels of her Feb. 1 win in the track’s $125,000 Louisiana Premiere Night Starlet.
The Azalea, a 7 1/2- furlong race run around two turns, was restricted to 3-year-old fillies bred in Louisiana.
Closing Report ($4.60) dueled with 3-5 favorite Ramona’s Wildcat through fractions of 23.45 seconds for the opening quarter and 47.86 for the half-mile. Closing Report moved clear from there, but lost her advantage to Lady Grantham before coming back on that rival and going on to cover the distance in 1:34.95.
Rosie Napravnik was aboard Closing Report, who races for Stephen Brown and is trained by Bret Calhoun.
Closing Report earned $60,000 for the win, her fourth from five career starts. Her earnings now stand at $205,628. Closing Report last year won the fillies division of the Texas Thoroughbred Association Sales Futurity. She is a daughter of Closing Argument and she was bred by Brett Brinkman and Allen Chiasson.
