Delta Downs: Adonis, Citizen Advocate prep successfully for rich upcoming stakes

Mary Rampellini|Oct 23, 2011

My Adonis established himself as a serious contender for next month’s Grade 3, $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot with an authoritative win in Saturday night’s local prep for the race, the $200,000 Jean Lafitte. He won by 5 1/2 lengths over Tiz Moe, and it was another three lengths back to third-place finisher Flashy Kid.

My Adonis ($3.20) invaded from Monmouth Park for the Jean Lafitte, coming into the race off a maiden special weight route score. He was content to let Top Cat Boogie and Flashy Kid duel early, sitting in third through an opening quarter in 23.14 seconds and a half-mile in 47.87. On the final turn, My Adonis surged to the lead under regular rider Elvis Trujillo, then finished strongly while covering the mile on a fast track in 1:40.56.

Kelly Breen trains My Adonis for George and Lori Hall, the same connections as Belmont Stakes winner Ruler on Ice. Breen said My Adonis is a candidate for the Delta Jackpot, which will be run Nov. 19. The horse earned $120,000 while scoring his second career win from five starts. My Adonis is a son of 2003 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Pleasantly Perfect.

Citizen Advocate takes My Trusty Cat

Citizen Advocate extended her win streak to four in a row Saturday night, when she won her two-turn debut in the $150,000 My Trusty Cat. The seven-furlong stakes is a prep for the Grade 3, $500,000 Delta Downs Princess on Nov. 19.

Citizen Advocate ($5.40) easily moved to the lead after the start of the My Trusty Cat, and was up by a length and a half through an opening quarter in 23.49 seconds. She remained clear through a half-mile in 48.69 seconds and six furlongs in 1:13.93 before covering the distance in 1:26.94. Citizen Advocate won by a length over Devious Intent. It was another five lengths back in third to Ithinkisawapudycat.

Luis Jurado rode the winner for White Hall Lane Farm and trainer David A. Vivian.

Citizen Advocate’s win streak began on July 31, when she won a maiden special weight at Calder Race Course. She proceed to win that track’s $75,000 Catcharisingstar Stakes on turf, the $150,000 Presque Isle Debutante on a synthetic surface Oct. 1, then the My Trusty Cat. Citizen Advocate has now won 4 of 6 starts and $247,900.
