Dell Hancock to receive Phipps Award

Dell Hancock, a longtime member of The Jockey Club and the chairman of its research foundation since 2004, has been named the recipient of the Dinny Phipps Award, which was created in 2017 to honor an individual who has “demonstrated dedication to equine health,” The Jockey Club announced on Tuesday.
Hancock, whose family owns Claiborne Farm in Central Kentucky, was appointed to the board of the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation in 1985. She has served two terms on The Jockey Club’s board of stewards and is currently a member of its Thoroughbred Safety Committee.
The Phipps family has been a longtime client of Claiborne Farm. The namesake of the award, Ogden Mills “Dinny” Phipps, died in 2016. The award was created by Earle Mack, a longtime Thoroughbred owner and breeder.

“The Hancock family and the Phipps family have a long, deep relationship, which makes me even more honored to be the recipient of this award bearing Dinny’s name,” said Dell Hancock, in a release. “He is a man I respected in so many ways.”
The award will be presented to Hancock at the Belmont Stakes Charity Celebration, scheduled for June 9 in New York.
