Delaware: Syncline overcomes

Syncline, checked and steadied while bottled up down the backstretch, came through along the inside turning for home and won the $100,000 Sussex Handicap at Delaware Park.

Syncline, ridden by Brent Bartram, won the 1 1/16-mile turf race by a nose over Dr. Kashnikow, with Sardaukar another half-length back in third. Mus-If, the 2-1 favorite, finished sixth in the field of seven.

Trained by Jonathan Sheppard, Syncline paid $24.40 to win. He ran the distance in 1:42.17.
