Delaware: Racing Luck beats two

Facing just two rivals, Racing Luck ran off to an 8 1/2-length victory in the John W. Rooney Memorial Handicap at Delaware Park.

Rain on Friday soaked the Delaware turf course, and when the $100,000 Rooney was switched to the main track, seven of the original 10 entrants were scratched.

Racing Luck, ridden by Jeremy Rose, set the early pace in the 1 1/8-mile race, pressed by the 3-5 favorite, Summer Rainbow, through a quarter-mile run in 23.75 seconds, a half-mile in 48.11, and three-quarters in 1:12.61. Racing Luck then pulled away as Summer Rainbow weakened, while the third starter, Spring Season, finished well to be second, 4 1/4 lengths ahead of Summer Rainbow.

Racing Luck ($5), a 4-year-old filly trained by Tim Ritchey, finished in a final time of 1:52.27.
