Delaware Park: Tough one to call

Trying to figure out the St. Georges Stakes at Delaware Park feels something like doing a puzzle found in a broken box left for years in an attic: One gets the feeling that key pieces might be missing.

First, there are a lot of horses. A full field of 12 plus one on the also-eligible list was entered in the 1 1/16-mile grass race, which is restricted to 3-year-old fillies. Second, two of the obviously better horses in the race, Fareena and Populist, have front-running styles that could compromise their chances in a race with plenty of speed. And another apparently prime contender, Sales Tax, has not raced since November.

And those are hardly the only three with a shot. In fact, some kind of case could made for every filly entered in the St. Georges - a puzzle that might not fit together at all.
