Delaware Park: Onepointhreekarats switches surfaces for Justakiss Stakes

It probably will seem strange to Onepointhreekarats when she is led onto the turf course at Delaware Park for Monday’s $50,000 Justakiss Stakes. Although her first of six career wins came on grass, Onepointhreekarats has raced exclusively on dirt in her past eight starts, producing five victories, including three stakes wins.
For the first time since July 2012, Onepointhreekarats will return to turf for the 1 1/16-mile feature for fillies and mares on the next-to-last program of Delaware’s 2013 season. The meet ends Wednesday with a card that includes the $100,000 Barbaro Stakes for 3-year-olds.
The 5-year-old mare Onepointhreekarats won her maiden on turf at Churchill Downs in May 2012, earning an 81 Beyer Speed Figure that would stamp her as a contender in this spot if she can run back to it. Trainer Graham Motion has given the mount to Kendrick Carmouche, the leading rider at Parx.
Motion has Alex Cintron named to ride Ski Holiday, who upset the Mrs. Penney Stakes for Pennsylvania-breds at almost 15-1 in her most recent start. Carmouche was aboard Ski Holiday for that win.
Cintron also is named to ride Daylight Ride, part of a coupled entry with Ski Holiday. The Jonathan Sheppard-trained Daylight Ride, the co-highweight with Ski Holiday at 124 pounds, exits a 2 3/4-length win going 1 1/8 miles at Parx and has been no worse than second in 3 of 4 starts on Delaware’s turf course.
The field also includes Tabreed, third as the even-money favorite in the 1 3/8-mile Omnibus Stakes at Monmouth Park in August. Over the past two years, trainer Christophe Clement is 8 for 22 (36 percent) with turf runners who finished in the money last out returning in a non-graded stakes after a break of 31 to 60 days.
Tippie Tap missed by a neck in a similar overnight turf stakes locally two starts ago. She led by 2 1/2 lengths at the stretch call of that 1 1/8-mile race, so Monday’s slightly shorter distance should suit her better.
Dinner’s Out returns to turf, where she is 3 for 14, following a dull performance while returning from a two-month layoff on Presque Isle’s Tapeta synthetic surface. Her trainer, Alan Goldberg, is 0 for 6 with horses switching from synthetic to turf, including two sixth-place finishes and a seventh in stakes.
