Delaware Park: Mt. Carson by a neck

Joe DeVivo|Oct 26, 2002

Mt. Carson ($16.60), the more lightly regarded part of trainer Rodney Jenkins's uncoupled entry, rallied seven wide into the stretch and overtook 23-1 longshot Valenzo to win the $101,500 Dover Stakes for 2-year-olds by a neck.

Stretched out to a mile after winning his maiden by 6 1/4 lengths in a six-furlong sprint, Mt. Carson covered the distance under jockey Jozbin Santana in 1:40.12 over a good track.

The other Jenkins-trained horse, Cape Good Hope, who was adding blinkers after finishing out of the money for the first time in his four-race career in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes in New York, finished third.
