Delaware Park cancels Monday card

Delaware Park canceled its Monday card due to heavy thunderstorms that moved through the region Sunday night.

The rain washed out a portion of the track in the stretch by the eighth pole, which necessitated the cancellation, acccording to Delaware Park communications director Chris Sobocinski. The races originally scheduled for Monday will instead be held Wednesday and will not be redrawn.

Wednesday was scheduled to be a racing day at Delaware, but the card had been previously canceled due to a lack of entries. Delaware Park has cut purses with the beginning of its new condition book Aug. 2 and has canceled its overnight stakes program due to a decline in business at its casino. Delaware casino revenue is the largest contributor to purses at the track.
