Delaware County Fair: Summer Touch finishes off Ohio Triple Crown

Summer Touch became the latest horse to achieve an Ohio Triple Crown, consisting of victories in the Ohio State Fair, Ohio Sires Stakes final, and Ohio Breeders Championship (OBC), by winning her $61,101 OBC for rookie pacing fillies in 1:55 1/5 on Sunday afternoon at the Delaware County Fair.
Driven by Chris Page, Summer Touch went to the front from the pole position and chopped out fractions of 28 3/5, 58 2/5, and 1:27. Gucci (Aaron Merriman) hung right with her in the pocket for the first three-quarters of the mile, but Summer Touch edged away in a 28 1/5 final panel, winning by two lengths. Gucci held second over a closing Ball Diamond (Brett Miller).
A daughter of Well Said-Real Touch (Real Desire) trained by Ron Burke, Summer Touch is owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC. and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. in partnership with breeders Knox Services Inc. and Slaughter Racing Stb LLC. Summer Touch has six wins and a second from seven appearances, has put away $285,550, and returned $2.10 to win as the 1-9 favorite.
Rainy Day Chic (Miller) won the second OBC for 2-year-old pacing fillies in 1:54 4/5. She blasted to the top from post five, led the way through stations of 27 3/5, 57 2/5, and 1:25 4/5, dispatched a first-over try from Pinknperfect (Page) after three-quarters, and prevailed by 2 1/2 lengths over a second-over Free Thinker (Josh Sutton). Leave Her Wild (Mike Wilder) checked in third.
Dan O'Mara trains Rainy Day Chic, a Rockin Amadeus-Fritzie Chic (Always A Virgin) filly, for owner/breeder Marjorie Polhamus. Rainy Day Chic, who was second to Summer Touch in the Ohio Sires Stakes final, has a record of 6-3-1 from 10 efforts and has banked $166,660. She paid $3.40 to win as the bettors' choice.
