Delaware County Fair: Rumble Strips trots a world record mile in Ohio Breeders Championship

Tuesday afternoon's program at the Delaware County Fair was headlined by a $110,914 Ohio Breeders Championship race for 2-year-old colt and gelding trotters, and Rumble Strips, driven by Kayne Kauffman, would win it in a world record clocking of 1:53 2/5.
Starting from post one, Rumble Strips left quickly to protect his position and forced Black Magic (Chris Lems), who had shot out from the four-hole, to back up into the pocket on the first turn. Rumble Strips hit the quarter in 28 1/5 and then faced first-over pressure from A Real Legend (Don Irvine Jr.), as he vacated the pylons from fourth approachng the 57 3/5 half.
Rumble Strips left out A Real Legend on the third turn, continued to do so through the 1:25 3/5 three-quarters, and then finally dispatched him for good on the final bend. From there, it was just a race against the clock, with Rumble Strips lowering the previous standard of 1:54 for a freshman colt trotter on a half-mile track that had belonged to Action Uncle and Arnold N Dicky. Black Magic ended up second, 5 1/4 lengths behind Rumble Strips, and Burton's Hill (Brett Miller) checked in third.
