Delaware County Fair: Rock Candy rolls to world record in Ohio Breeders Championship

Trainer Brian Brown won three of the six Ohio Breeders Championship races held on Thursday at the Delaware County Fair, with a world record performance by 2-year-old gelding pacer Rock Candy being the highlight.
Rock Candy (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) raced in the first of two $66,953 rookie pacing male splits, and he led through stations of 28 1/5, 56 3/5, and 1:24 4/5 on his way to the 1:51 3/5 win, which knocked a tick off the previous world record of 1:51 4/5 set by Drew The Dragon at Northfield Park last year. A Pet Rock gelding, he is owned by Country Club Acres Inc., Joe Sbrocco, and Richard Lombardo.
Dislocator (Chris Page) gave Brown a sweep of the 2-year-old colt and gelding pace flights after winning the second grouping in 1:54 4/5. He also cut the mile (28, 57, and 1:25) and held sway through the lane for the victory. Dislocator, by Big Bad John, is owned by Joelyn Ridder, Scott Davis, Sharron Sopronyi, and VIP Internet Stable LLC.
McVenus completed Brown's triple by winning the second of two $55,852 Ohio Breeders Championship divisions for 3-year-old pacing fillies. She followed cover for driver Trace Tetrick, went three-wide on the final turn, and caught Believe In Waco (Aaron Merriman) to win by a neck in a 1:52 2/5 effort. McVenus, a filly by McArdle, is owned by her breeder Emerald Highlands Farm.
Rockathon (David Miller / Kimberly Dailey) and Bounding Dragon (Dan Noble / Mike Roth) would win the pair of $55,777 OBCs for 3-year-old male pacers on the card, and the other OBC for sophomore pacing fillies went to Ohio Sires Stakes champion Baron Remy (Chris Page / Ron Burke).
