Delaware County Fair: Old Oaken Bucket to Untouchable As, Pony Chrome best in Buckette

Untouchable As and Pony Chrome scored Grand Circuit victories in the Grade 3 Old Oaken Bucket and Buckette for 3-year-old trotters of both sexes on Thursday afternoon at the Delaware (Ohio) County Fair.
In the $96,000 Old Oaken Bucket for colts and geldings, Untouchable As won by 3 3/4 lengths in 1:54 3/5 for driver Tony Hall and trainer Anette Lorentzon after he led through fracions of 28 3/5, 58 1/5 and 1:26 2/5. Tymal Kryptonite held second from the pocket and Gare D'Orsay (Scott Zeron) finished third.
"It was very good. We've had him from the beginning," said Lorentzon. "He showed a lot aleady as a 2-year-old, but he got hurt, so we've been taking it easy. He's been getting better and better."
A Walner homebred for ACL Stuteri AB, Untouchable As has a summary of 7-2-0 from 12 starts, has earned $138,150 and paid $2.20 to win as the 1-9 favorite.

Pony Chrome (Lamar Wingard) got parked out by 9-5 favorite Atlantic Summer (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) to the 28 1/5 quarter and 57 1/5 half in the $79,350 Buckette, but Pony Chrome wore down and went by Atlantic Summer nearin the 1:25 4/5 three-quarters. Once she had command, Pony Chrome built up a gap on the rest of the field and cruised to a 4 1/4 lengths triumph over Kerstin (Yannick Gingras) in 1:55 2/5. Wendalyn Hanover (Tim Tetrick) checked in third.
"This filly can make a bad driver look good. She's got a world of heart," remarked a jubilant Wingard after the race. "I'm still in awe and in shock to be even here. She's done a lot for me this year. The only time I've gotten beat sitting behind her was by a neck. She's got a heart of gold.
"It might as well have been a $2 million race. I didn't know how I was going to handle it. It's the biggest race I've ever driven in."
Lewayne Miller trains Pony Chrome, a daughter of Southwind Chrome, for owners Equine Spa LLC. and Thomas Carey. The Jonas Borntreger-bred has six wins, 10 seconds and three thirds from 23 outings, has pocketed $123,724 and returned $14.40 to win as a 6-1 offering.
