Delaware County Fair: L A Delight captures 2016 Jugette

Conrad Photo L A Delight has won an impressive 18 times in 25 career starts.

L A Delight finished like a rocket in her Jugette elimination to be second and apparently that was a sign that she had plenty left for the $143,640 final on Wednesday afternoon at the Delaware County Fairgrounds.

The complexion of the Jugette changed early on when Blue Moon Stride attempted to fire off the gate from the outside post but made a break. That left elimination winner Call Me Queen Be alone while showing early speed from her pylon position. Driver Scott Zeron was able to post reasonable fractions of 27 1/5 and 56 2/5 before John Campbell came to the rim just before the 1:25 three quarter call.

Call Me Queen Be and L A Delight hooked up in battle around the final turn but it was clear after a few strides into the stretch that the latter was going to have her moment in the winner’s circle. Under Campbell urging, the Robert McIntosh trainee drew clear very late for the victory in 1:51 3/5.

Yankee Moonshine finished third.

“She is the best filly I ever had that made a million dollars and she never gave me a grey hair,” said McIntosh in the winner’s circle.

“I’m so proud of the way she raced and how she fought in the stretch,” said Campbell of the 3-year-old daughter of Blue Chip Farms stallion Bettor’s Delight.

Paying $8.20 to win as the second choice in the wagering, L A Delight now has 18 wins in 25 career starts for owners Robert McIntosh Stables, C S X Stables and Al McIntosh Holdings. She has earned $939,435 in her career and will look to up that total in Ontario Sire Stakes action in the coming weeks.

"I think we have a Gold in Ontario and the Super Final. She also has the Breeders Crown," said McIntosh.
