Delaware County Fair: A Girl That Twirls, Simply Right score in Standardbred

Two-year-old fillies of both gaits raced in Standardbred splits on the Jugette undercard at the Delaware County Fair, and it would be A Girl That Twirls and Simply Right who won.
The pacers went for a purse of $42,710, and Start Takin It Off (Yannick Gingras) shot to the lead from post six and carved out a 29 3/5 opening quarter. Wine N Dine Me (Joe Bongiorno) then went first-over from third on the second turn, and she took the lead coming to the 59 3/5 half as Start Takin It Off made a break.
A Girl That Twirls (Andrew McCarthy) watched all that from fourth and then third, and then she vacated the pylons in the third quarter. After being show clear racetrack, A Girl That Twirls moved towards and then past Wine N Dine Me at the 1:29 1/5 three-quarters, leaving Gonna Be Good (Tyler Smith) to take up the chase from first-over. Gonna Be Good was game at 41-1, but A Girl That Twirls fended her off to score by three-parts of a length in 1:59. Wine N Dine Me ended up third.
The victorious American Ideal-Heels On The Beach filly was bred by Crawford Farms and was a $32,000 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale purchase. She has a record of 3-1-1 from seven starts, has banked $105,222, and returned $2.20 to win. Deborah Daguet trains her for owner D Racing Stable Inc.

In the $46,310 Standardbred for the trotters, Ladybugs N Bourbon (Dexter Dunn) posted opening-half fractions of 31 and 1:01 4/5 after going to the top from post four, but Simply Right (Tim Tetrick) popped out of the two-hole entering the backstretch and took command at the 1:32 three-quarters. After Simply Right crossed down the cones, that left Pocahontas (Scott Zeron) first-up, and while she tried hard on the outside, she just couldn't get to Simply Right, who hit the wire three-quarters of a length to the good in a 2:01 4/5 mile over the sloppy going. Adjure Hanover (Andy Miller) got up for third.
Simply Right is a daughter of Swan For All-Stirling Debutant trained by Anette Lorentzon for owner Al Libfeld. Simply Right, who was bred by Alan and Larry Troyer and fetched $87,000 at the 2020 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale, now has two victories from six appearances, and she pushed her earnings to $85,975. She was sent off as the favorite and paid $4.20 to win.
