Delaware County Fair: Gingras sweeps Standardbred stakes

Two-year-old colts and geldings on both gaits were in action on Thursday afternoon at the Delaware County Fair in the Standardbred, a Grand Circuit event.
In the $45,330 tilt for trotters, Takato (Dexter Dunn) put up opening-half fractions of 29 and 1:00, but Yannick Gingras vacated the pocket with Fiftyfour K passing the half. Fiftyfour K surged into the lead and then opened up a gap on the rest of field before the 1:30 4/5 three-quarters, and he kept clear to the end, winning by three lengths in 2:02 over a track rated good. Just For Trix (Andy Miller) was second, and Summit City Sonny (Joey Putnam) finished third.
A Sebastian K-Westfiftyfirst colt, Fiftyfour K was bred by Gary Condit and is owned by Here's To Us Stable. Ron Steck trains Fiftyfour K, who has two wins and a second from six starts, and he has now earned $74,025. The 3-1 second choice, he paid $8.20 to win.
Gingras also won the $46,710 flight for pacers with Captain Cowboy in 1:57 1/5. Starting from the pole position, Captain Cowboy went to the top, carved out stations of 29 4/5, 59 2/5, and 1:28 3/5, responded to a challenge by pocket-sitter Birthday (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) before three-quarters, and kicked away to prevail by 2 1/2 lengths. Birthday held second over Good Deal (Chris Page).
