Delaware County Fair: Five-day meet starts Sunday afternoon

webmaster|Sep 13, 2025

Two $72,250 divisions of the Ohio Breeders Championship (OBC) for 2-year-old filly pacers will be featured on the opening day (Sunday, September 15) of the five-day Delaware County Fair meet.

The first division will be a rematch between Laude Da (Chris Page) and Stride For Stride (Justin Irvine). Laude Da defeated Stride For Stride by a nose in their last start - the final leg of the Ohio Sire Stakes at Eldorado Scioto Downs on September 6.

Laude Da, a homebred daughter of Summa Cum Laude, has won $56,212 for Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi and Knox Services. Stride For Stride is co-owned by trainer Garry Martin, B. Kleinberg Racing and Lee Unkefer. The Lather Up lass has only finished off-the-board in one of seven seasonal starts.

The second division is headed by Zoom Call (Dan Noble). The Summa Cum Laude filly remains a maiden but has earned checks in each of her eight starts. She has made $64,717 for Jay Mossbarger, Hutchison Harness, Brent Hopper and SCP Stable.

Twelve entries forced two divisions of the OBC for aged trotters in a 'battle of the sexes.'

The first division will feature Sugar Instead (Tyler Smith), the lone mare, taking on the boys. The second $17,750 division features three mares: Jurassic Hattie (Brett Miller), Refined (Chris Page) and Sandis Commando L (Hank Le Van).

Race #2 will be the $32,500 OBC for aged pacers. The event only drew three entries but two are standouts. The 2021 Ohio Horse of the Year Charlie May (Brett Miller) will leave from post two. The 7-year-old gelded son of McArdle is owned by Don R. Tiger and has earned $2.3 million lifetime with a lifetime mark of 1:47 1/5 taken in 2023.

Paris's Dragon (Dan Noble) drew the outside post. The Fear The Dragon gelding comes into the event with a streak of seven straight first- or second-place finishes. His lifetime mark of 1:49 1/5 was taken earlier this year at Eldorado Scioto Downs.

Three Amateur Races to be Held

Sunday's 20-race card will have three races for amateur drivers. Two divisions of the Great Lakes Amateur Driving events will be held, along with the $5,000 Tim Fouts Memorial Standardbred Driving final. The Fouts Memorial brings together representatives from the nation's top amateur driving clubs and honors the former Presiding Judge at the Delaware County Fair.

$5,000 reasons to play the Pick 4

The Sunday Pick Four will feature a $5,000 guaranteed pool. The segment will include races 17 through 20.

Jugette and Jug Day Post Time Changes

Post time for the Jugette (Wednesday) and Jug Day (Thursday) cards will be at 11:00 A.M. (EDT).

Jug Can be Seen on Fox Sports 2

A majority of the Jug Day (Thursday, Sept. 18) card can be seen on Fox Sports 2 (FS2). The program will feature stakes races from 1:00 – 7:00 P.M. (EDT).
