Delaware County Fair: Chalky results in Standardbred for freshmen

Heavy favorites Volume Eight and Bugaboo Lou emerged victorious from their Standardbred Grand Circut tests for 2-year-old colts and geldings on Thursday afternoon at the Delaware County Fair.
In the $47,331 race for trotters, Biscoe (Yannick Gingras) put up opening-half fractions of 30 and 1:00 with Volume Eight (Andy McCarthy) stalking him from the pocket. McCarthy sent Volume Eight two-wide heading to the 1:30 three-quarters, but Biscoe was able to repel his initial bid and force Volume Eight back into the two-hole on the last turn.
After the braven-up tuck, McCarthy angled Volume Eight back out for another crack at Biscoe coming off the final bend, and this time Volume Eight's charge would be successful, as he got up in the stretch to prevail by a neck in 1:58. Tiktok Roy (Dan Noble) came in third.
Trainer Noel Daley also co-owns Volume Eight, a Chapter Seven colt bred by the late Robert J. Key, with partners Joe Sbrocco, La Express & Jaf Racing, and Mario Mazza. Volume Eight has won two of his three starts, has now earned $31,415, and paid $3.40 to win as the 3-5 choice.
Bugaboo Lou was the 1-9 chalk in the $48,132 tilt for the pacers and scored in impressive fashion. He moved out of the pocket coming to the 28 2/5 opening quarter and took the lead away from Coaches Corner (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) passing that marker. After that, Bugaboo Lou kept control through middle-half panels of 57 2/5 and 1:26 3/5 before he closed in 26 4/5 to win by a widening 5 1/4 lengths in 1:53 2/5. Lou On The Beach (Mike Wilder) got up for second ahead of Coaches Corner.
