SPOT PLAYS/LIVE LONGSHOTS

Del Mar Race 1, (5:05 ET)

A standout kicks off the card, 8-for-12 Churchill Downs shipper BLUES AND SILVERS (#1, 8-5) stands out. She is a short price, but can be singled in the pick five. - Brad Free

Del Mar Race 2, (5:37 ET)

There’s a good chance a first-timer will win this 2yo filly dash, and most players will be banking on Baffert with the M/L fave, Awesome Baby. But $340k OBS purchase FASHION PLATE (#7, 5-1) draws favorably to the outer with Bejarano and might be her equal or better, not to mention a better price. After those nice works, could come firing fresh out of the box. – Marty McGee

Del Mar Race 3, (6:09 ET)

The 2 that worked a faster 6fs than CRUCERO (#3, 6-1) on 7/27 both are graded-stakes types. Some very interesting stuff going on here.- Marcus Hersh

Del Mar Race 5, (7:10 ET) - LIVE LONGSHOT

Bombs away with AJAC (#8, 12-1), a second-start 2yo adding blinkers. He broke slowly and raced evenly in his debut; trainer Marcelo Polanco has a long history of DMR upsets. - Brad Free

Del Mar Race 7, (8:10 ET)

BIORHYTHM (#7, 4-1) should scoot straight to front in relatively paceless turf mile. Think stretchout sprinter stays trip, wires.- Marcus Hersh

Del Mar Race 7, (8:10 ET)

FREEDOM REIGNS (#3, 9-2) may be ready to turn the corner. After a long layoff she’s come back this spring with improving form, topped off by a good 2nd at BHP July 12 at this level, finishing 5 1/4 lengths clear of 3rd. She faces some toughies but might now be set for her best. -Michael Hammersly

Del Mar Race 7, (8:10 ET) - LIVE LONGSHOT

With the turf rails at 14 feet, BIORHYTHM (#7, 4-1) could be tough. But longshot HIGH JINKS (BRZ) (#2, 15-1) is eligible to improve second start in the U.S. for A.C. Avila. - Brad Free

Del Mar Race 8, (8:40 ET) - LIVE LONGSHOT

Even if bet in half from his morning line, maiden winner CELTIC MOON (#7, 12-1) is worth a play. He beat a good field last out, and meets ordinary 2yos in this G2. - Brad Free

VULNERABLE FAVORITES

Del Mar Race 8, (8:40 ET)

ONTOLOGY (#2, 5-2) realize it's a 2yo stake, but this one's still a maiden and as the Morning Line favorite, am against him as well as ALPINE LUCK (#4, 3-1) who got the lead twice and won, but the two times he couldn't, he lost. Will take a chance on a couple of the recent maiden graduates. - Chuck Kuehhas
