SPOT PLAYS AND LIVE LONGSHOTS

Del Mar Race 2, (5:37 ET) - LIVE LONGSHOT

Second-time SINGLEINTHELAST (#4, 6-1) adds blinkers for a trainer whose maidens typically improve. The 2-year-old filly offers higher value than favorite Cal Gal. - Brad Free

Del Mar Race 2, (5:37 ET)

BONITA STAR (#7, 3-1) rallied to be second in a faster race than Cal Gal, running a Beyer Speed Figure 10 points higher than the latter filly; barn does very well with its Cal-bred stock. - Byron King

Del Mar Race 5, (7:10 ET) - LIVE LONGSHOT

BIG BANE THEORY (#4, 8-1) showed a lot of promise last fall, and ran well on debut over the local lawn. Looks ready for comeback off works. - Marcus Hersh

Del Mar Race 8, (8:40 ET)

Think DISCREET MARQ (#2, 5-1) can run all the other speed off their feet early & beat the closers to the wire. Should love the low-cut, fast-playing local course. - Marcus Hersh

Del Mar Race 9, (9:10 ET)

IN DAD'S HONOR (#3, 9-2) First-timing Scat Daddy filly has been impressing onlookers in her recent drills and finds a decent spot for which to be unveiled. Pedigree and connections say she's capable, and a swift beginning sure would help; let's see what she's got. - Marty McGee

Del Mar Race 10, (9:40 ET)

Lightly raced WARREN'S VENEDA (#4, 5-1) is improving each start, handles two turns, and figures as a strong play in this average first-level state-bred allowance. - Brad Free

Del Mar Race 10, (9:40 ET)

STAR VESTA (#2, 3-1) came back smokin' after nearly 11 months on the bench, laughing at $12,500 claimers. Not only does that run show she's come back as good as ever, but Bejarano was up that day and stays with her as Hollendorfer gives you a big thumbs-up with the significant class hike to where he can't lose her via a claim. Sure it means facing tougher but that also may buoy your price. - Michael Hammersly

VULNERABLE FAVORITES

Del Mar Race 1, (5:05 ET)

INDYGO F M A (#1, 2-1) hasn't really improved much figure-wise in her last four starts; that coupled with the fact that she's got those three straight seconds will have me looking elsewhere. - Chuck Kuehhas

Del Mar Race 2, (5:37 ET)

CAL GAL (#6, 5-2) showed speed and faded to finish a tired third in her debut, and although capable of improving second time out, she'll be overbet off her 310K pricetag and with high-profile connections in her corner. - Byron King

Del Mar Race 10, (9:40 ET)

STAR VESTA (#2, 3-1) Might be silly to knock a horse moving up from a romping win by more than seven lengths, but this allowance field is much better than the $12.5k claimers she drilled last time. - Brad Free
