SPOT PLAYS/LIVE LONGSHOTS

Del Mar Race 4, (6:40 ET)

CAST A DOUBT (#8, 6-1) faces turf and winners both for the first time, so those are big hurdles. However, the way he blasted maidens on BHP's main track July 6 hints he’s turned the corner and not only is it great to see Sadler plunk down $50K to claim him but he brings him back where he can't lose him via another claim. It's first time turf, but he's bred for it. - Michael Hammersly

Del Mar Race 4, (6:40 ET)

Connex that claimed CAST A DOUBT (#8, 6-1) from $50K MCL win boost him to N1X alw & switch to turf. Really like sire Wildcat Heir with grass sprinters. Worked fast. Perfect stalking trip possible. - Marcus Hersh

Del Mar Race 5, (7:10 ET)

MONEY MACHINE (#2, 7-2) found straight maidens and turf a tad too much at BHP June 27 but he kept to his task nicely to finish 2nd. He takes a significant drop in class for a trainer who's pushing all the right buttons these days, has handled synthetic and has the speed to be in the thick of it from the start on the stretchout. - Michael Hammersly

Del Mar Race 5, (7:10 ET)

SIR SEARSUCKER (#4, 6-1) showed speed after a troubled start in her first race over the Del Mar Poly July 19, and now stretches out in distance. Being by Shakespeare, he has the bloodlines to route. – Byron King

Del Mar Race 6, (7:40 ET)

What with all the serious questions surrounding his opposition - FURY KAPCORI (#2, 9-5) making his 3yo debut, Trelawny switching barns, Wine Police and She Digs Me in off layoffs – this classy veteran should be able to sit a great trip under Nakatani before moving right along. Adds blinks and should be able to stay within hailing distance, hopefully at a decent price. – Marty McGee

Del Mar Race 7, (8:10 ET)

A Group 1 winner in Brazil, HAWK'S EYES (#6, 8-1 pre-scratch morning line) drops in class and shortens to one mile for terrific longshot trainer A.C. Avila. - Brad Free

VULNERABLE FAVORITES

Del Mar Race 4, (6:40 ET)

Not sure how linemaker came up with YANKEE REBEL (#9) as 5-2 chalk here, but definitely against at anything like that price. I'd be picking him 5th or 6th. - Marcus Hersh

Del Mar Race 5, (7:10 ET)

BOSS OF ME (#8, 3-1) was installed as the favorite in this maiden $50,000 race, presumably because of a class drop from straight maiden company. But he has never been close than fifth at any call in his four races; ordinary enough form. - Byron King

Del Mar Race 6, (7:40 ET)

DOYOUSEEMECOMING (#4, 8-5) comes off a strong 2nd vs. similar at BHP June 30. That effort alone earns him favorite status here but his only 2 prior starts here weren't that hot and while he comes here sharp he has no margin for error, and taking that a short price on him seems risky business. - Michael Hammersly
