DEL MAR PICK 3 (RACE 4-6)

Race 4

KEY's - Final Step, Sawyer's Hill

B's - Big Medicine Man, Number Five

C's - Karma King

FINAL STEP has some smart works for a trainer (Miller) who's superb first time out (23%) and is Gomez's 1st call. SAWYER'S HILL likewise has shown talent in the a.m. with a couple bullet works. BIG MEDICINE MAN is another who's worked sharply (bullet :46.40 here Aug. 19) and lures Bejarano. NUMBER FIVE debuts with some solid works for Mandella who is quite capable first time out.

Race 5

KEY's - Roman Threat, Chiloquin

B's - So Brilliant

C's - Rail Trip

ROMAN THREAT has been dazzling, winning 2 of his first 3 starts, earning big Beyers, and the lone loss came to then-sprint champ Amazombie. He hasn't run in over 15 months but has worked well and Baffert can get them ready off the bench. CHILOQUIN comes here sharp and has a recency edge over the top pick. SO BRILLIANT once flashed top ability and after a long layoff came back to post a big win at BHP June 30 (102 Beyer). He's been freshened again since.

Race 6

KEY's - Magic Channel, Quiet Force

B's - Te Rapa, Unbridled Giant

C's - Bench Light

MAGIC CHANNEL has made quite a splash since coming from England, winning his first 2 starts here. Hollendorfer saw fit to plunk down $50K to claim him last time and does not risk him for a tag here. QUIET FORCE came out firing to win his turf sprint debut at SA Feb. 23. He hasn't run since but Mandella can get them ready off the bench with the best of them, and the works are most encouraging
