DEL MAR, Calif. - Paynter, second in the Grade 2 San Diego Handicap on July 27, worked six furlongs in 1:13.40 on Thursday for a late August stakes at Del Mar or Saratoga.

Paynter, who recovered from severe cases of colitis and laminitis last fall, worked in company with the stakes winner Fed Biz, who was given the same time.

Trainer Bob Baffert said that Paynter could run in the $1 million Pacific Classic at Del Mar on Aug. 25 or the $750,000 Woodward Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 31.

“It’s 50-50,” Baffert said. “I’ve got another week to make up my mind.”

Power Broker, second in the Grade 1 Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on July 28, worked a half-mile in 48 seconds. The winner of the Easy Goer Stakes at Belmont Park in June, Power Broker will make his next start in the $500,000 Super Derby at Louisiana Downs on Sept. 7, Baffert said.

Beholder, the champion 2-year-old filly of 2012, worked six furlongs in 1:12.40, the fastest of 12 works at the distance. Trained by Richard Mandella, Beholder is scheduled to start in the $100,000 Torrey Pines Stakes for 3-year-old fillies over a mile Sept. 1.

Main-track training was disrupted for 50 minutes Thursday after a horse collided with the inside rail at approximately 8:20 a.m., forcing a five-foot section to be replaced. As a result, activity was heavier than normal on a seldom-used training track adjacent to the main track before normal training resumed.
