Del Mar notes: Cerin points Let’s Go Cheyenne to Rodeo Drive

Benoit & Associates Let’s Go Cheyenne, with Joe Talamo riding, wins the CTT and TOC Handicap.

DEL MAR, Calif. – Let’s Go Cheyenne won her stakes debut in Friday’s $88,500 CTT and TOC Handicap at Del Mar, giving trainer Vladimir Cerin an excuse to make big plans for the 4-year-old filly this fall.

Cerin said that Let’s Go Cheyenne will be pointed for the $250,000 Rodeo Drive Stakes at Santa Anita on Sept. 29. The Grade 1 Rodeo Drive, formerly known as the Yellow Ribbon Stakes, is run over 1 1/4 miles on turf for fillies and mares.

“I wish it was farther,” Cerin said.

Distance racing is not an issue for Let’s Go Cheyenne, who races for Southern Comfort Stable and William Scott. In the CTT and TOC Handicap over 1 3/8 miles on turf, Let’s Go Cheyenne ($8.80) led throughout under jockey Joe Talamo, holding an advantage of as many as 12 lengths, and won by 5 3/4 lengths over Left a Message, the 5-2 favorite.

“I expected a big performance,” Cerin said. “She was far enough in front that they weren’t going to catch her.”

A 4-year-old filly by Tiznow, Let’s Go Cheyenne returned from a layoff of 3 1/2 months in the CTT and TOC Handicap. She has won 3 of her last 5 starts. In her career, Let’s Go Cheyenne has won 3 of 9 starts and $160,910.
