Del Mar maiden winner Moonshine Memories targeting Chandelier Stakes

DEL MAR, Calif. – Moonshine Memories will go from a maiden race win in her debut at Del Mar on Saturday to the Grade 1 Chandelier Stakes at Santa Anita on Sept. 30, trainer Simon Callaghan said on Sunday.
Moonshine Memories, a filly by Malibu Moon, led throughout a six-furlong race for 2-year-old fillies on Saturday, winning by a length over favored Tyfosha. Callaghan said the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante at seven furlongs on Sept. 2 will arrive too soon.
“I think we’ll wait for the Chandelier,” Callaghan said. “I was nervous if we had her ready. I think she’s a good filly.”
Attendance, handle dip on Pacific Classic card
Del Mar showed slight declines in ontrack attendance and all-sources handle on Saturday’s 11-race Pacific Classic program over the corresponding day in 2016.
Saturday’s program drew a crowd of 23,509, down 2.6 percent from 24,155 last year. All-sources handle was $24,929,218, a decline of less than 1 percent from the all-time record of $25,126,232 set last year.
The attendance was the second-lowest in the history of the Pacific Classic, which was first run in 1991. The 2015 race drew an ontrack crowd of 20,424.
Saturday’s 50-cent pick four drew a track record pool of $1,576,876, which surpassed the previous mark of $1,443,431 set on Pacific Classic day in 2016.
