DEL MAR PICK 4 (Races 5-8)

RACE 5

Key- Hot Bride

B’s- Water Issues, Thunder Bonnet

Will lean heavily on the Baffert firster, HOT BRIDE (#2, 7-2). Don’t normally like keying firsters in maiden claimers, but Baffert’s exceptional numbers are hard to ignore. Will also use a debuter from Kitchingman, THUNDER BONNET (#11, 6-1), and a filly that’s run who has the right to improve, WATER ISSUES (#5, 7-2).

RACE 6

Keys- Surfcup, Pure Loyalty

B’s- Little Jerry, Know More

Going to lean on SURFCUP (#7, 5-2), who defeated Gervinho, subsequent winner of a division of the Oceanside yesterday on opening day, and PURE ROYALTY (#8, 7-2), who scratched out of the other division of aforementioned Oceanside. Will also use LITTLE JERRY (#3, 5-1) and KNOW MORE (#6, 12-1).

RACE 7

Keys – Sprouts, Harlington’s Rose

B’s-Time for Angie, Smoove It

Likely even money favorite here, SPROUTS (#1, 8-5), has run a pair of races that are many lengths faster than what any of these have done. But with 2yos you never know who could jump up and think HARLINGTON’S ROSE (#6, 3-1), could do so. Like the improvement she showed with addition of blinkers last out. Two others that deserve inclusion are TIME FOR ANGIE (#5, 4-1) and SMOOVE IT (#8, 5-1).

RACE 8

Key- Major Affair

B’s- Street Choir, Raise Ten, Tenkiller Kid

C’s- I Buy Gold, Spotted Owl

They have the MAJOR AFFAIR (#4, 3-1) to beat , who will be tough first time here for a tag. Others to use will be a pair of firsters from Sadler, #5 STREET CHOIR (#5, 12-1) and RAISE TEN (#11, 12-1); I BUY GOLD (#6, 10-1), who put in a much-improved effort last time despite a less than comfortable trip, and TENKILLER KID (#12, 7-2), who has the best overall figures in the race, but has lost a couple times at this level. - Chuck Kuehhas

DEL MAR RACE 8 TRIFECTA

Key’s - Tenkiller Kid

B’s -Street Choir, Business Section, Raise Ten

C’s - Spotted Owl, Philosophic

Carava might well have made a nice claim from Hollendorfer when nabbing TENKILLER KID (#12, 7-2) from that runner-up effort at HollyPark last month. Now he turns back and draws favorably as a first-time gelding; let’s use him strongest to close out a nice day while backing up with a few others drawn outside and purposely ignoring two who’ve had their chances, Brannaman and Major Affair.- Marty McGee
