Del Mar internet plays for Monday
Lava Man continues to pummel a weak West Coast handicap division, and he scored his sixth straight win Sunday in the Pacific Classic. Glad things are working out for someone.
The longshot wagers Sunday did not land. Race-5 firster Jungle Storm started at 13-1, unable to establish a comfortable position, and faded. She can be played back at a big price in her second start.
Race-7 pacesetter Handsome Michael K was 15-1, led to the quarter pole, and faded. He is a dud. Finally, race-9 starter Jamie was 13-1, contested the pace to the head of the lane, and wilted. He needs softer.
Turn the page to Monday, and the bet is to turn a 3-1 standout into something a little bit more by wagering daily doubles that key Careless Candidate in race 4.
Races 3 & 4
First-time starter Romance is Fly (7-2) might be the right filly based on her sharp works, but her trainer rarely wins with rookies. Losin At Love (8-1) ran better than the line looks in her debut, and should improve second time out dropping in class. I Wish You Love (9-2) has speed, but is taking a suspicious drop in class.
Use those three race-3 starters in daily doubles to race-4 favorite Careless Candidate. The gelding was overmatched in his last, drops to a realistic level for high-percent trainer Carla Gaines, and is reunited with Victor Espinoza. He is simply the best horse in this $32,000 turf claimer.
