Del Mar gets new track superintendent

Steve Andersen|Jan 06, 2016

ARCADIA, Calif. – Steven Wood has been named track superintendent at Del Mar, replacing Richard Tedesco, who will remain as a consultant, the track announced Wednesday.

Wood, 42, is the son of Steve Wood, who was the track superintendent at Del Mar from 1989 to 2009. Steven Wood has worked as foreman for Tedesco in recent years. Tedesco, 78, has directed the care of Del Mar’s main track for the last six years and has an extensive history of maintaining Southern California racetracks.

Tedesco oversaw the replacement of Del Mar’s synthetic surface in early 2015 with the dirt track currently in use.

Wood has been part of maintenance crews at tracks throughout California, Idaho, and New Mexico.
