Del Mar: Free's horses to watch for Thursday, Nov. 13
BOLO
Trainer: Carla Gaines
Last race: Nov. 7, 5th
Finish: 5th by 2 1/4
Beyer: 65
A 2-year-old first-time starter by Temple City, this colt was in this maiden turf route strictly for education. No speed, raced at the back, finished with run. This was a terrific debut, nine days after he dumped his rider and scratched in the post parade.
BACCELO
Trainer: Paulo Lobo
Last race: Nov. 8, 4th
Finish: 3rd by 3 1/4
Beyer: 85
First start in four months and first in California, this Group 1 winner from Brazil ran well in a race dominated by the pacesetter. He raced near the back, angled outside, and finished with run in a solid comeback. He fits in a similar N2X turf route.
SCANDAL
Trainer: Richard Mandella
Last race: Nov. 8, 6th
Finish: 3rd by 1 1/2
Beyer: 57
A 2-year-old maiden filly making her second start, this daughter of Blame improved a bunch. She did not establish position early, raced next to last into the far turn, and then finished with run outside. Her next start should be her best.
SNOWDAY
Trainer: Jerry Hollendorfer
Last race: Nov. 9, race 1
Finish: 2nd by 3/4
Beyer: 89
A Group 3 winner in France, this turf sprinter returned to form when dropped in class. He set the pace, shook off his foes, fought back, and finished clear of third. Hollendorfer claimed him from Gary Mandella; the gelding fits in a similar N1X optional claimer.
STREET SERENADE
Trainer: Steve Miyadi
Last race: Nov. 8, 5th
Finish: 1st by 5 1/4
Beyer: 92
This veteran gelding returned to Polytrack and delivered a smashing win. He opened up, set a strong pace, and was gone. A voided claim means Miyadi can run him back at the same level or drop off the win. He can squeeze in another start before the meets ends.
