Del Mar: Dance With Fate headed to Del Mar Futurity

DEL MAR, Calif. - Dance With Fate, who beat 2-year-old maidens in his second lifetime start Sunday, will come back in the Grade 1, $300,000 Del Mar Futurity on closing day Sept. 4, trainer Pete Eurton said.

Always well regarded, Dance With Fate disappointed in a troubled debut last month at Betfair Hollywood Park, but rebounded Sunday under Rafael Bejarano.

“I thought it came up a paceless race. He’s not a naturally fast horse, but Rafael saw no one wanted the lead,” Eurton said. “It was a great confidence-builder. We thought he’d run that kind of race first time out. It was nice to see him show up and do what you think he can do.”

After the horse won at 6 1/2 furlongs, Eurton believes the seven furlongs of the Futurity will suit Dance With Fate.

“He’s big and long. You’ve got to let him catch his stride,” Eurton said.

** Owner Rodolfo Mendoza was suspended indefinitely by Del Mar’s stewards after failing to appear before them to address being more than $70,000 in arrears to trainer Mike Puype. The suspension bars Mendoza from the track.

** Owner Herb Soto also was suspended indefinitely after failing to appear to address charges of owing a veterinarian and another owner a total of $36,000.

** Owner Laura Pavlish was suspended for failing to see the stewards regarding an alleged debt of $9,500 to a van company. As with Mendoza and Soto, she too is barred from the track.
