Del Mar carryover at $155,247

Steve Andersen|Aug 05, 2003

DEL MAR, Calif. - The third week of the Del Mar meeting begins on Wednesday with a pick six carryover of $155,247 after no one hit the bet on Monday.

Wednesday's pick six covers the third through eighth races, which includes four sprints, and two routes on turf - one for optional claimers and the $75,000 Escondido Handicap over 1 3/8 miles.

Here is a glance at the changes for Wednesday's pick six races.

In the third race, Cryptoscript in scratched from a six-furlong starter allowance for California-breds. Joyful Meeting, an impressive winner for trainer John Sadler on July 4, is the 2-1 morning-line favorite, but must beat Morning Riser, who breaks from the rail and is coming off a six-length win here on July 30.

The fourth race will have 10 starters in a $58,000 optional claimer over 1 1/16 miles on turf. Mr. Steve is withdrawn. Only Memo to Mike is entered to be claimed, for $25,000. In a wide-open race, Kedington is the 7-2 morning-line favorite, but Sea Harbor (9-2), Kofi and First Insight (both 5-1), and Mr. Ararat (6-1) will draw support.

There are no changes in the fifth race, a sprint for California-bred 2-year-old maiden claimers. Kissin Ty, third in a maiden claimer on July 16, will be favored against eight others.

There are only six starters in the sixth race, a $70,000 optional claimer over 6 1/2 furlongs. Secret Liaison, scratched from the Daisycutter Handicap last Friday, is 2-1 on the morning-line in her first start since March.

In the Escondido Handicap, Something Rushing and Gulchie are scratched, leaving 10 runners. Asong for Billy, fourth in the Sunset Handicap last month at Hollywood Park, heads a field that includes Delta Form, Lily's Lad, Lusty Latin and Mont Saint Michel.

The final race is a six-furlong sprint for 3-year-olds entered to be claimed for $10,500 to $12,500. Of the nine entrants, many tickets will include Tioga Lake (5-2), Flying Pilot (7-2) and Kimon (9-2).
