Del Mar carryover at $144,945

Steve Andersen|Aug 21, 2003

DEL MAR, Calif. - Wins by two longshots in Thursday's pick six led to a carryover of $144,945 for Friday's eight-race program at Del Mar.

Gift of the Eagle ($38.60) and Zee Best ($29.40) was the most difficult winners to find during Thursday's pick six.

The Friday program starts at 3:30 p.m., with the pick six covering the third through eighth races.

There are few changes in Friday's pick six.

In the third race, The Lawyer is the 2-1 morning-line favorite to win a one-mile race for California-bred maiden claimers. Very Presidential and Tavern Time are coupled and are listed at 9-2.

The fourth race drew 10 starters in a seven-furlong dash for 3-year-olds entered to be claimed for $14,000 to $16,000. Dr. Dubai, who races for Bob Baffert, is 2-1 on the line. There will be support for Sabalucious, who is listed at 5-2.

There are 10 entrants in the fifth race, run over seven furlongs for 2-year-old maiden claimers. In a wide-open race, Trickinthepark is 5-2, but New Course (7-2) and Turn to Victory (9-2) are also well-supported.

The lone turf race in the pick six is the sixth race, an allowance for fillies and mares over 1 1-16 miles. Dubai Belle, a European import trained by Eoin Harty, is the 5-2 morning-line favorite.

The seventh race is equally wide-open. Run over a mile under optional claimer conditions, the race has drawn eight starters. Continental Lu and Cunning Play, second and third against a similar field on Aug. 4, figure to dominate the betting.

The only scratches are in the final race, a sprint over 6 1-2 furlongs for California-breds entered for claiming prices of $9,000 to $10,000. Memori and Bettor Royalty have been withdrawn.

Ex Federali, who drops from $25,000 to $10,000, is the mornine-line favorite. Of the starters with form at this level, L'Natural High and Memofromthelady figure to gain support.
