Del Mar adds Monday, July 27 to racing schedule

Del Mar has added Monday, July 27, to its racing schedule to make up one of the three days of racing lost this week after a coronavirus outbreak among jockeys.
Del Mar announced Wednesday that it would not race from Friday through Sunday this week after 15 jockeys tested positive for coronavirus. The jockeys are in the midst of a 10-day quarantine period.

The track said it plans to resume racing on Friday, July 24, as part of four consecutive days of racing.
“We want to let folks know that we intend to do our best to make up for races lost this weekend,” track president Josh Rubinstein said during teleconference hosted by the Thoroughbred Owners of California on Thursday afternoon.
Track officials said they hope to make up races from the other two canceled card throughout the rest of the season, which ends Sept. 7.
Del Mar’s stakes schedule has been adjusted as a result of this week’s cancellations. The $65,000 Daisycutter is rescheduled for the July 24 card along with the $125,000 Fleet Treat. The July 26 card will feature the Grade 2 San Diego Handicap, Grade 2 San Clemente, and $65,000 Smiling Tiger. The Grade 2 Eddie Read has been pushed to July 26 and will share a card with the $125,000 California Dreamin’.
During Thursday’s discussion with the TOC, Rubinstein reiterated comments he made earlier this month saying track officials are hopeful that horse owners will be able to attend races at some point this summer. Owners are not currently allowed to attend races.
