Defy wins first stakes in Miranda Diane

Defy became a stakes winner Monday at Will Rogers Downs, when she darted to a 4 1/4-length victory over Fiddlers Tsunami in the $50,000 Miranda Diane. It was another 5 1/4 lengths back in third to Another Bond Girl.
The Miranda Diane, a six-furlong race for fillies and mares, was the first stakes of the meet. It was run under foggy conditions. The cloud cover appeared to thicken just before the running of the Miranda Diane.
Defy ($8.60) was a front-running winner. David Cabrera was aboard for Foster Racing Stable and trainer Chris Hartman.
“David told me, ‘She put me right on the lead and never looked back,’” Hartman said.
“You couldn’t see anything. The fog came in and there was nothing you could do. All of a sudden it got real bad right around the time the race went.”
Hartman on Monday was trying to find out the final time for the race. Daily Racing Form also placed a call to an official with Will Rogers.
Defy invaded from Oaklawn and Hartman said she would return to the Hot Springs, Ark., track. Defy is a daughter Into Mischief. She earned a first-place check of $29,712 for the Miranda Diane, her fifth win from 20 starts. She has now earned $144,737.
