Deep Impact odds-on for Crown

Deep Impact will be a prohibitive 1-10 favorite at Kyoto on Sunday in the $2.5 million, 1 3/4-mile Kikuka Sho, or Japanese St. Leger. A victory would make him Japan's first Triple Crown winner since Symboli Rudolf in 1984.

A son of Sunday Silence trained by Yasuo Ikee, Deep Impact landed the first two legs of the series with handy victories in the 1 1/4-mile Japanese 2000 Guineas and the 1 1/2-mile Japanese Derby. He will face 15 rivals Sunday.

* The list of preliminary nominees to the $4.5 million Japan Cup at Tokyo on Nov. 26 includes 15 horses who are scheduled to run in the Breeders' Cup next Saturday. Heading the list for the 1 1/2-mile turf event are Better Talk Now, Fourty Niners Son, Alkaased, Ace, Bago, Oratorio, Ouija Board, and Wonder Again as well as Sunday's Canadian International favorite, Electrocutionist.
