Decked Out targets Edgewood Stakes at Churchill Downs

Decked Out, the winner of the Grade 3 Providencia Stakes for 3-year-old fillies on turf last Saturday, will be part of trainer Keith Desormeaux’s traveling team to Kentucky next month.
Desormeaux has selected the $150,000 Edgewood Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles on turf at Churchill Downs on May 6 for Decked Out’s next start. The following day, the Desormeaux-trained Exaggerator will start in the Kentucky Derby on the strength of his win in the Santa Anita Derby last Saturday.
Decked Out won the first stakes of her career in the $151,380 Providencia at 1 1/8 miles, rallying wide through the final three furlongs to prevail by 2 3/4 lengths. The Providencia was her second win in 10 starts and ended an eight-race losing streak since a maiden race last May.
Owned by Big Chief Racing and Gene Voss, Decked Out has found a home on turf, racing on the surface since mid-February.
“It can move some horses up dramatically when they change surfaces,” Desormeaux said. “She’s confident now.”
