Debut win points out Breeze On Bye in Dr. Fager

Breeze On By will attempt to back up his impressive debut win with a stakes victory Saturday in the $100,000 Dr. Fager division of the Florida Sire Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
The six-furlong race shares a card with the $100,000 Desert Vixen division of the Florida Sire Stakes, led by Princess Secret. Both restricted races are for 2-year-olds at six furlongs. The races are part of an annual 2-year-old series of restricted stakes run each summer at Gulfstream.

Breeze On By debuted in a maiden special weight July 12 at Gulfstream and rolled by six lengths. He increased his advantage at each point of call, and covered six furlongs in 1:11.82. The Beyer Speed Figure of 69 that Breeze On By earned is the best career number in the Dr. Fager field of 12.
“He’s a talented horse,” said trainer Ralph Nicks. “I’m not crazy about the three weeks back on a baby, but those Florida Sire Stakes are one time a year. He gets one opportunity in his lifetime.”
Nicks said he has been pleased with how Breeze On By emerged from his debut.
“Mentally, he’s a laid-back horse,” he said. “He’s stayed that way. He’s doing well.”
Emisael Jaramillo was aboard Breeze On By last time and again has the mount from post 2.
Breeze On By is a son of the Congrats stallion Cajun Breeze. He races for his breeder, Stonehedge LLC.
Valiant Thor invades from Tampa Bay Downs, where he won his career debut by 8 1/4 lengths July 1. Another debut winner in the field is Boca Boy, who comes off a maiden special weight score July 17 at Gulfstream.
In the Desert Vixen, Princess Secret returns to racing with fillies after finishing second against males in an entry-level allowance July 5 at Gulfstream. The start came following a four-length debut win over the local strip May 7. Princess Secret rallied from last in the allowance and earned a strong Beyer Figure of 71.
“Unfortunately, she grabbed a quarter at the start of that race and bent a shoe, so it made it a little bit even more impressive that she ran so well against those horses,” owner and trainer Daniel Pita told publicity at Gulfstream. “She missed a couple days of training after that race, but it didn’t end up being something to worry about. She healed beautifully. We got on top of it since the day of the race and she got back to form.”
Papetu, who is undefeated in two starts, won the race Princess Secret exits. Princess Secret has since worked a half-mile in 48.80 seconds July 25 at Gulfstream Park West.
“She showed very early in her training that she was going to be a talented filly,” Pita said. “She’s the type of horse that basically does everything right. Nothing really bothers her.”

Miguel Vasquez has the mount from post 9 in the field of 10.
Stonehedge and Nicks will counter with Oh Deborah, a debut winner who adds blinkers Saturday.
“She kind of ran green down the stretch,” Nicks said of Oh Deborah’s 3 1/4-length win over $50,000 claiming maidens at Gulfstream.
Another contender is Social Exclusion, who wired the field on turf in her debut July 1. She is trained by Steve Klesaris.
