Dean's List has third consecutive victory with Bill Thomas Memorial

Dean’s List won his third consecutive race Sunday when he battled between rivals for a neck victory over Truth Seeker in the $100,000 Bill Thomas Memorial at Sunland Park.
It was a nose back in third to favorite Bye Bye Bobby.
The Bill Thomas was one of seven stakes on the Sunland Derby Day card. Purses for the stakes totaled $1.7 million. Wild On Ice ($72.80) upset the Sunland Derby and Flying Connection ($4.60) captured the $300,000 Sunland Park Oaks.
Dean’s List ($7.40) was always prominent while covering the 6 1/2 furlongs for 3-year-olds and up in 1:16.76. The track was fast. Leandro Goncalves was aboard for trainer Ray Ashford Jr.
Dean’s List came into the Bill Thomas Memorial off back-to-back allowance wins at Sam Houston Race Park. He is a son of Speightstown and is owned by Judge Lanier Racing and James Drought.
In other races, Cityonthenile ($24) raced with the pace throughout for a half-length win over Yankee Dollar in the $100,000 Harry Henson Handicap. Eda and Miss Hard Knocks were scratched from the one-mile race for fillies and mares. Cityonthenile covered the distance in 1:38.64. Francisco Amparan was aboard the daughter to Temple City for Amanda Sweeten and trainer Andres Gonzalez.
***Crafty Money ($7.40) pushed the pace and went on to a 2 1/2-length win over Tiz a Journey in the $250,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Oaks. The winner covered the 1 1/6 miles on a fast track in 1:45.04. Leandro Goncalves was aboard for Judge Lanier Racing and trainer Nancy Summers. Crafty Money is a New Mexico-bred daughter of Conquest Mo Money.
***Valentino Who ($91.80) was up for a half-length win over favorite Still in the Trap in the $250,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Derby. Jose Miguel Vazquez was aboard the New Mexico-bred by Comfort for Juan Gutierrez and trainer Jose A. Gonzalez. The winner covered 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.46.
***I Think I’m Here ($22.60) rallied for a 1 3/4-length win over Jet N G in the $120,000 New Mexico State University. Alfredo Juarez Jr. was aboard for Charles Dunleavy III and trainer Lillian Silva. I Think I’m Here is a New Mexico-bred son of Marking and covered the one mile and 70 yards in 1:42.37. Cheese Tray was scratched from the New Mexico State University.
