Suffolk Downs

D’boldest ($28) dominates Jill Jellison Memorial Dash

Joe Nevills|Jul 08, 2017

D’boldest was the longest price on the board in the $77,500 Jill Jellison Memorial Dash Stakes on Saturday at Suffolk Downs, but she ran like an overwhelming favorite, dominating the field to win by 4 1/4 lengths.

The 7-year-old daughter of D’wildcat was roused to the lead out of the gate by jockey Abel Lezcano and quickly put distance between them and their closest group of challengers, which included favorite Portmagee, Nite Delite, and Cali Thirty Seven. D’boldest continued to be hustled along with a 2 1/2-length lead after the opening three-eighths; she was never approached through the turn.

The mare entered the stretch with a four-length advantage, and was kept to task with the occasional left-handed stick from Lezcano as she widened her lead to the wire. Cali Thirty Seven took the inside path to the runner-up spot, a half-length ahead of Wild About Harry. Favorite Portmagee faded to last.

D’boldest completed the roughly five-furlong race in 58.17 seconds over a firm turf course. She paid $28 to win.

Jose Camejo trains D’boldest for owner Antonia Noonan. The mare was bred in Florida by Soundview Farm.

Saturday’s Jill Jellison victory improved d’Boldest’s lifetime record to 10 wins in 25 starts for earnings of $204,325. It was her first stakes victory in her third attempt, and completed a late blossoming for the mare, who tested stakes company for the first time in November 2015 at age 5.
