Twin B Joe Fresh continued her dominating form with a devastating performance in capturing the $250,000 Dayton Distaff Derby at Dayton Raceway on Saturday night in a 1:48 3/5 clocking over a track rated “good.” Co-owner and driver Dexter Dunn guided the 4-year-old by Roll With Joe to her ninth consecutive victory on the season. With an inside draw Dunn had Twin B Joe Fresh move to the front into the opening turn. Second choice Sylvia Hanover with Bob McClure also tried to leave but couldn’t match strides with the heavy favorite and elected to tuck in third behind Kobe’s Gigi before the field reached the quarter pole. Twin B Joe Fresh passed the opening quarter in 26 3/5 and was under rating through the second quarter. McClure pulled Sylvia Hanover off the pylons with five-eighths remaining, providing cover to Walkin On Sunshine, but didn’t make much of a dent in the leader’s margin as Dunn controlled the half with Twin B Joe Fresh in 54 2/5. Seeking to put the field away at that point, Dunn called on the Chris Ryder-trained mare and she rapidly opened ground on the field, sprinting a third quarter in 26 3/5 and arriving at that station in complete control in 1:21. In the homestretch Dunn was a passenger as usual as Twin B Joe Fresh held a safe margin to the wire finishing with a final quarter in 27 3/5. Sylvia Hanover raced incredibly well given the added ground she covered and was clear for second with Always B Naughty closing late for third. The 1:48 3/5 mark just missed the track record of 1:48 2/5. Sent off as the 1-9 public choice, Twin B Joe Fresh returned $2.20 to win. Owned by Dunn, Ryder, Barry Spak and Peter Trebotica, Twin B Joe Fresh was a winner for the 28th time during her career and with the victory moved her career earnings in excess of $2 million.
