Day's record gear nets Guild $9k

Mary Rampellini|Jun 22, 2001

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - A mounted set of goggles, helmet and helmet cover worn by jockey Pat Day when he scored his 8,000th win May 30 at Churchill Downs was sold for $9,000 during a benefit auction for the Jockeys' Guild Disabled Riders Fund Friday at Lone Star Park. Bob Sambol of Dallas purchased the item, which was the highest-priced lot during a live auction that raised a total of $43,800 for the Disabled Riders Fund. A silent auction was also held.

An autographed mounted set of Kentucky Derby photos featuring jockeys Bill Hartack, Eddie Arcaro, and Bill Shoemaker brought $8,000 from Mike Renzulli, an owner and breeder from Dallas.
