Dayoutoftheoffice fresh as BC Juvenile Fillies contender

Barbara D. Livingston Dayoutoftheoffice earned a 92 Beyer Speed Figure with Saturday's triumph in the Frizette.

ELMONT, N.Y. - Tim Hamm’s decision to give Dayoutoftheoffice a mid-summer break should have her a pretty fresh horse entering the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies next month at Keeneland. Her performance in Saturday’s Grade 1 Frizette makes her a dangerous one as well.

Coming off an 86-day layoff, Dayoutoftheoffice was still fit enough to win Saturday’s Frizette by two lengths over Vequist. Dayoutoftheoffice ran a mile in 1:35.82 and earned a 92 Beyer Speed Figure. The win made Dayoutoftheoffice a perfect 3 for 3 and sends her to Kentucky with a big chance in the Juvenile Fillies.

“I guess I would say we’re very happy and very confident she’ll move forward and hopefully a move forward is enough to get the job done,” Hamm said.
Hamm said Dayoutoftheoffice should appreciate the 1 1/16-miles and two turns of the Juvenile Fillies.

“I don’t think it’ll be an issue, I really don’t,” Hamm said. “She’s trained since day one like she wanted to go longer. She trained between last race and this race like she wanted to go longer.”

Hamm said Dayoutoftheoffice would ship to Keeneland by next weekend to continue preparations for the Breeders’ Cup. He said she would likely first ship to Presque Isle Downs, where he also has an operation, to break up the trip.

*** The 3-year-old filly Tamahere was quite impressive winning Saturday’s Grade 2, $150,000 Sands Points Stakes in her first U.S. start and first for trainer Chad Brown.

Brown said he is not sure where or when the filly will make her next start as races restricted to 3-year-old fillies become less plentiful in the fall.

One such spot is the Grade 2, $200,000 Mrs. Revere Stakes at Churchill Downs on Nov. 14.

“She came out of the race good, don’t really know what I’m going to do, she may or may not make one more start this year,” Brown said. “I really don’t have anything in mind.”

Tamahere, a French-bred daughter of Wootton Bassett, ran a mile in 1:35.21 and earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 90.
