Day Storm took advantage of a ground-saving trip to win the $50,000 Dr. T.F. Classen Memorial at ThistleDown on Friday. Jockey Alberto Pusac kept the 7-year-old mare on the rail to the turn of the six-furlong event. Derby Day Storm had to await room, but got through on the inside and went to the lead in upper stretch and drew off to a three-length win.
Deniro’s Saint came from off the pace to finish second under Luis Gonzalez, a 1 1/2 lengths in front of odds-on favorite Startin Something.
Trained by Bryan Metz, Derby Day Storm returned $27.60 and ran the six furlongs over a fast track in 1.13.40.
