Day Phillips doing fine as she awaits return of Mr Havercamp

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Trainer Catherine Day Phillips has gotten off to a quick start at the Woodbine meet, recording three wins from her first nine starters. All three of her wins came in racing action last week, with Katie Baby, Notice Me, and Smooth Talk.
Day Phillips and owner-breeders Sean and Dorothy Fitzhenry also had a big night at the Sovereign Awards on April 18 with stable star Mr Havercamp. Mr Havercamp was named Canada’s champion older male and champion turf male for his 2018 campaign of three wins in six starts. His victories included the Grade 2 Play the King Stakes and the Grade 2 Autumn Stakes.
Mr Havercamp’s 2019 debut won’t come until early summer, however, after he suffered an injury while with Day Phillips at Palm Meadows in Florida. Day Phillips said Mr Havercamp is back to galloping now but is still not race ready, and that she did not know where he would return.
◗ Jockey Justin Stein will ride in his first race in more than three years Sunday at Woodbine aboard Real Coal in the ninth race. Stein had retired from racing in 2016, but has decided to make a return. His career highlights includes a Queen’s Plate win with Strait of Dover in 2012, a victory in the Grade 1 Nearctic Stakes with Phil’s Dream in 2013, and a Woodbine Oaks victory with Academic in 2015.
