PHOENIX – Consumerconfidence, freshened off a few dull outings at Canterbury Downs this summer, gave trainer Shawn Davis a sweep of the two stakes Saturday at Turf Paradise as he finished strongly to easily capture the $30,000 Walter R. Cluer Memorial.

Owned by Frank Bemis and Davis, Consumerconfidence ($13.60) sat midpack early in the one-mile turf event under Francisco Arrieta, commenced a smart run turning for home, and overwhelmed his rivals as he drew off to win by 4 1/4 lengths. It was the third victory in as many starts over this course for the 5-year-old son of Quality Road. Thetrailerguy, who was just behind the eventual winner from the start, ran on for second, while He’s Munnie rallied from far back for third. High Security, the 2.90-1 favorite, lagged well back and ran on for fifth in the field of 10.

Consumerconfidence ran the distance in 1:36.47. The winner’s share of $17,670 gives him earnings of $127,435 from five wins in 22 starts.

In the $30,000 Queen of the Green Stakes earlier on the card, Davis sent out heavy favorite Medaglia Gold ($3) to notch her fourth straight win.

Owned by Larry and Marianne Williams, the 3-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro broke sharply under Scott Stevens and went right to the lead in the mile grass race. She set a solid pace while maintaining a clear advantage, blew the race open into the lane as she opened up a commanding lead, then cruised home geared down to win by 2 3/4 lengths. I Came to Praise stalked and ran on for second, a neck in front of Boomerang Miss, third in the field of seven distaffers.

Medaglia Gold ran the distance in 1:36.27. The winner’s share of $18,228 gives her earnings of $119,717 from five wins in 14 starts.
