Dates set for 32-date Woodlands meet

The Woodlands in Kansas City, Kan., which is scheduled to open a slots casino in June, has been granted a 32-date race meet for 2008 by the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission. The mixed meet for Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses will run from Sept. 20 through Nov. 2, according to Jayme LaRocca, general manager of the Woodlands.

He said the track will race Saturday through Wednesday. The Woodlands ran a 25-date mixed meet in 2007.

The Woodlands has separate racing facilities for horses and greyhounds. It won a referendum for slots last summer, and is slated to build a temporary casino first, then a permanent one as part of a larger plan that places the dog track inside the horse track.
