Dashnunder Afullmoon streaks into Lee Berwick Futurity
Dashnunder Afullmoon will attempt to run her record to 4 for 4 on Saturday night when she starts as the probable favorite in the $705,495 Lee Berwick Futurity that closes out the Quarter Horse meet at Delta Downs.
The race is one of seven Louisiana-bred stakes on a program worth $1.4 million.
The Lee Berwick is a restricted Grade 1 race over 350 yards. Dashnunder Afullmoon set the fastest qualifying time for the finale and is one of three fillies in the field of 10; the others are her stablemates Ttt Kas and Angiesprizedpatriot. The card also includes the $257,160 Delta Downs Louisiana-bred Derby and the $100,000 Louisiana Classic.
Dashnunder Afullmoon has had an outstanding meet at Delta. She won her debut in an April 28 trial for the Grade 2, $322,285 Lassie Futurity, then won a shake to get into the finale. Dashunder Afullmoon delivered at 28-1 in the Lassie on May 19, then was a much shorter price in her trial for the Lee Berwick, winning by 1 3/4 lengths at 3-5.
The Lee Berwick is the richest race of the meet; there were 15 trials for it on June 17. Dashnunder Afullmoon won the fourth race, covering 350 yards on a fast track in 17.48 seconds. Eddie Sanchez was aboard for his father, trainer Jose Sanchez. He again has the mount on Dashnunder Afullmoon, who will break from post 10.
Dashnunder Afullmoon is a daughter of Heza Fast Dash who was purchased for $44,500 at the Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association yearling sale last August, according to a press release from Delta. The filly races for Rogelio Marquez Jr.
No Politics Here was the fastest qualifier for the Louisiana-bred Derby and is one of three in the finale for trainer Kenneth Roberts. The barn also has the third-fastest qualifier, First Prize Bourban, and the seventh-fastest qualifier, Jrs Coronas Shadow.
No Politics Here won his trial by a length June 16, covering 400 yards in 19.55 seconds. Noe Castaneda has the mount from post 8 for T M Ranch.
The Roberts trainee Heza Louisiana Dash will be chasing his third straight stakes win at the Delta meet in the Louisiana Classic, which is a restricted Grade 2. The field includes Jls Dashn and Zoomn, a stakes winner who has earned more than $500,000.
◗ Don Stevens, the announcer at Delta, will be joined by Martha Claussen of the American Quarter Horse Association for televised paddock previews Saturday. Claussen also is scheduled to interview Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser on the new Louisiana Horse Tourism program that was announced in May. First post is 5:45 p.m. Central.
