Danza Cavallo leads Brown trio in Waya
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Unlike Friday’s Hall of Fame Stakes, in which he entered five horses, trainer Chad Brown only entered three in Saturday’s Grade 3, $200,000 Waya Stakes for fillies and mares at 1 1/2 miles.
Brown entered Danza Cavallo, Goldy Espony, and Helenistic in the Waya. Danza Cavallo got saddled with post 12.
Danza Cavallo is coming off a fifth-place finish to Hard Not to Like in the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes at Santa Anita. Hard Not to Like came back to win the Grade 1 Diana here earlier in the meet.
“Tough trip, very firm ground – draw a line through it,” Brown said. “I’m going to try her at a mile and a half and see what that does.”
In five tries at a 1 1/2 miles, Danza Cavallo has a win and four seconds, including a neck loss in last November’s Grade 3 Long Island Handicap.
Goldy Espony is 2 for 2 this year. Hellenistic is coming off a third-place finish in a third-level allowance race.
Trainer Jonathan Sheppard has entered two in this race – Cat’s Claw, a 13-1 winner of this race last year, and Chat, an allowance winner here last summer.
Graham Motion entered Eastern Belle and Kitten’s Point. Others probable starters include Evidently, Nice Number, Queen’s Parade, Selenite, and White Rose.
