Danish Dynaformer scores first stakes in Plate Trial

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Danish Dynaformer ($9.90) rallied with determination to notch his first stakes Sunday at Woodbine in the $151,600 Plate Trial, in which the favored Danzig Moon suffered a fatal breakdown.
Danish Dynaformer stamped himself as a contender for the $1 million Queen’s Plate in the nine-furlong Trial after holding off the Conquest Stable runners Conquest Curlinate and Conquest Boogaloo. He prevailed by three-quarters of a length over Conquest Curlinate in a time of 1:49.81.
Danzig Moon fractured his right hind leg on the backstretch and was pulled up by Julien Leparoux while impeding R U Watchingbud, who was OK after, as were the riders involved.
“It was a compound fracture,” said Ontario Racing Commission veterinarian Greg Taylor. “The horse was humanely euthanized.”
It was the ninth Plate Trial victory for trainer Roger Attfield, who gave Luis Contreras a leg up on the Charles Fipke-owned Danish Dynaformer.
“I got a nice, perfect trip,” said Contreras. “I tried to save ground on the first turn. On the backstretch, I started to make my move on the outside, and I’m glad I did [go wide] because of what happened to [Danzig Moon]. I was in the right position before the [accident happened].”
