Danish Dynaformer romps in Breeders' Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The favored Danish Dynaformer blew away the field Sunday in the $500,400 Breeders’ Stakes at Woodbine, giving trainer Roger Attfield a record ninth win in the final leg of the Canadian Triple Crown.
It was a record-tying fourth Breeders’ victory for jockey Patrick Husbands, who had Danish Dynaformer stalking in second on the backstretch of the 12-furlong turf marathon. Samuel Dechamplain set moderate fractions before giving way to Danish Dynaformer and Lucky Lindy, who hit the front in unison early in the stretch before the former drew away for a 7 3/4-length triumph in 2:29.28 over the firm ground.
“I went into this race with a lot of confidence, especially after I breezed him two days ago,” Husbands said. “I didn’t want to get him into trouble. I wanted to ride him like he was the best horse in the race. I didn’t want to be on the lead, but I didn’t want those guys to pocket me. When I gave him his head, he relaxed, and I just had an easy journey from there. About a mile out, I knew I was the winner.”
Conquest Boogaloo was boxed in along the inside on the far turn before closing down the center of the course to finish a clear second. Lucky Lindy faded to third in the nine-horse field of Canadian-breds. He was followed by the rank maiden Ault, Samuel Dechamplain, Portree, Field of Courage, Olympic Bid, and the Prince of Wales winner Breaking Lucky.
Danish Dynaformer ($4.80) earned $300,000 for owner-breeder Charles Fipke, which boosted his bankroll to $608,938. He finished second as the favorite in the Queen’s Plate but never fired when sixth on the dirt in the second Triple Crown race, the Prince of Wales at Fort Erie. He rebounded big time in the Breeders’, which wasn’t a surprise to his Hall of Fame trainer.
“This is what he wants to do. He wants to run long on the turf,” Attfield said. “I let them talk me into running in the Prince of Wales, and I didn’t want to do that. I worried that I messed up the game, but he hadn’t indicated that to me himself. I’m delighted with him. He’s a really nice horse.”
